Norfolk Southern (NS) awarded the Luzerne and Susquehanna Railway Company (LSX) a Silver Business Initiative Award at the 10th Annual Shorline Meeting held in Roanoke, Virginia on July 10-12, 2011. The Silver Business Initiative Award recognizes those railroads who increased their rail traffic by at least 500 rail cars. The growth in LSX traffic was driven by the opening of an ethanol transload terminal in Avoca, PA. Of the 250 shortline railroads that are partnered with NS, only 3, including LSX, received the Silver Business Initiative Award.

The Luzerne & Susquehanna Railway Company (LSX) has begun operations at its new ethanol transload terminal in Avoca, PA. The transload terminal provides for the bulk transfer of ethanol from rail to truck modes of transport. Mr. Jim Rafa, LS, VP Sales, stated that he expects LS to service the plant daily. Rail traffic is received from both CPRS and NS (via haulage on regional carrier RBMN). Call (607) 687-6883 for more information.
